WHO launches global sexual and reproductive health month

The World Health Organization has initiated World Sexual and Reproductive Health Month 2026, a global campaign that begins on September 1 and will continue throughout the month, with events and activities focused on awareness, education and access to care.

The campaign covers information and services related to sexuality, relationships, contraception, abortion, fertility care, pregnancy, childbirth, sexually transmitted infections and protection from violence. WHO presents sexual and reproductive health as relevant to all individuals, including in how people grow, form relationships and make decisions about their bodies and futures.

WHO says investment in sexual and reproductive health can reduce preventable illness and deaths, support educational attainment, strengthen participation in the workforce and contribute to more resilient communities and health systems. The organisation also highlights respectful, people-centred care as important for improving health outcomes and ensuring that people are not left behind.

Focus on access and inclusion

The campaign specifically identifies adolescents, women and girls, people experiencing infertility, survivors of violence and people facing social or economic barriers to care among those requiring attention. Its stated emphasis is on access to information and services, as well as care that responds to people’s circumstances.

WHO is hosting events during the month. One listed event is a film screening and discussion of “Rosa - These Storms”, scheduled for September 29, 2026, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

Organisations and individuals are encouraged to take part by hosting activities that promote sexual and reproductive health awareness and education. The initiative remains ongoing throughout September, according to the campaign information.
